Top 5 things to do this weekend

It’s time to say adios to 2017 and welcome a new calendar. No better way around here to do that than join the crowd in downtown Grand Haven on Sunday night.

(1) New Year’s Eve Ball Drop — Just before midnight Sunday on Washington Avenue at First Street in downtown Grand Haven. Celebrate the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018 by watching the ball drop. All ages are welcome. Stay for the fireworks after the ball drop. This third annual event is presented by the City of Grand Haven and Grand Haven Department of Public Safety.

(2) Seth Glier concerts — 8 p.m. Saturday and 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Seven Steps Up, 116 S. Jackson St., Spring Lake. Glier’s new album, “Birds,” is steeped in conflict and contradictions; grief and loss give way to strength and resilience. Tickets start at $25 for the Saturday night show. The banquet hall’s New Year’s Eve dinner and concert will have Glier performing as a trio with Joe Nerney and Rachel Coates. The evening includes appetizers during the cocktail hour before salad, choice of dinner, dessert, unlimited non-alcoholic beverages and a bottle of champagne per table of four at midnight. Tickets for Sunday night are $160.

(3) Jack’s New Year’s Eve Party — 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday at Jack’s Waterfront Bistro and Bar inside the Holiday Inn, 940 W. Savidge St., Spring Lake. Three’s A Crowd will be the live entertainment. No cover charge. You must be age 21 or older.

(4) New Year’s Eve Disco Party — 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday at the Grand Armory Brewing Co., 17 S. Second St., downtown Grand Haven. Boogie 2017 away and ring in the new year with the funk. Costumes are welcome. Champagne toast at midnight. There is no cover, but you must be age 21 or older.

(5) NYE Jam in your Jammies — 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday at Trail Point Brewing Co., 6035 Lake Michigan Drive, Allendale. Ring in the new wear in the comfort of your pajamas. Blue Disciples will be rocking the house from 9 to midnight. D&D’s gluten-free food truck will be serving up the chow all night. Admission is free.
