Vissers focuses on the Grand Rapids Whitewater initiative pushing forward with plans to rebuild the Grand River rapids through downtown Grand Rapids. They want to add kayak and canoe routes, wading paths, and rowing lanes.
But, Vissers asks, how will that affect fishing along that 2.2-mile stretch? Some fishermen call the plan “the end of fishing in downtown Grand Rapids.”
However, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources is less worried. They say it will alter fishing, but far from not ending it, for the rapids area.
