She couldn't find a one-stop shop that fit her and her daughter's needs.
So, she did what any enterprising mom would do — she opened her own.
Wiggins recently opened Baby Bears Children's Boutique at 616 E. Savidge St., Suite C, in Spring Lake.
“After I had my daughter almost three years ago, I really got into children's fashion,” Wiggins said. “I decided I wanted to open up a store. I couldn't find everything in one location that I was looking for. She's kind of the inspiration.”
Wiggins first opened in Montague, but when she moved to Spring Lake, she decided to move the store. She also has a seasonal store in Muskegon.
The Spring Lake boutique features boy's clothes, newborn to size 7; and girl's clothes, newborn to size 12. She offers both classic and trendy styles.
“Grandparents want more classic styles,” she said. “The younger mothers want more of a trendy style.”
The store also sells blankets, shoes, books, toys and games.
“I have a little mix of everything,” Wiggins said.
She hits merchandise shows in Chicago a couple of times a year and searches online for products, particularly products made in Michigan.
“I look for Michigan artists and even go on Etsy and other places looking for unique, hand-made-in-Michigan items,” she said.
Wiggins said sales have been strong.
“So far, so good,” she said. “I've gotten a good response. I think it's just an awesome area and it's really bustling right now. I think it's the ideal location for me.”
Wiggins said she thinks the Front Porch ice cream store could help her business next season.
“Village Baker right across the street brings in a lot of traffic,” she said, “and I assume the ice cream place will help me a lot next summer.”
Baby Bears is open from 11 a.m to 6 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and 11 a.m to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Next spring and summer, the boutique will be open Tuesday through Saturday.
