Getting to know: Curt Theune

Name: Curt Theune

What’s your current job? Assistant property manager of Pinewood Place/Pineview Apartments and secretary of the Spring Lake school board. More important job: Being a caring and loving husband and father.

Readers would be surprised to learn that: Since my childhood, I've had a reading comprehension issue. I'm sharing this issue, because I want every student with any educational or life difficulty to persevere. Through hard work and desire, anyone can succeed.

If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who would you pick and why? Four generations of Theune men — my Grandpa Theune (who died prior to my birth), my dad — Peter Theune, myself, and my son — Scott. I'd love to have met my Grandpa Theune. All of us would learn your shared traits, plus our differences.

What’s the coolest place you’ve ever visited? Pacific Coast Highway — Highway 1 in California.

What are your hobbies? Volunteer work, charitable organizations, Spring Lake School Board, collecting Denver Broncos (my favorite team) sports memorabilia, sports card collecting with my son, yard work.

What’s your favorite restaurant? Any restaurant our family can agree upon.

Favorite book? I'm not a book reader, but I enjoy sports and current event magazines.

What class was the most beneficial to you? My GVSU criminal justice classes with Dr. James Walker. He was my academic advisor, teacher and friend. A very good man!

Have you ever met any celebrities? Mike Holmgren, former head coach of the Green Bay Packers; Dan Bylsma, NHL coach/former NHL player/former church softball teammate.

What’s your can’t-live-without piece of technology? My iPhone.

What’s your favorite app? ESPN.

If you weren’t in your current position, what would you like to do? Executive management position with the Denver Broncos

If you could travel back in time to any certain era or event, when/where would you pick, and why? December 2002 and July 2005, because my wife, Sue, and I celebrated the births of our children.

Who was the biggest influence on your life? My parents.

What’s your favorite movie or TV show? “The Shawshank Redemption.”

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? (1) Have a great day and make it great for someone else, and (2) Hard work and desire. Good things will happen.

What do you love about West Michigan? Small town feel with endless opportunities within an hour.

Do you have any pets? Three months ago, our family rescued Espy, a black lab mix from Pound Buddies of Muskegon.

What’s at the top of your bucket list?
More travel with my family.

What’s your pet peeve? Unorganized and inconsistency.
