Daniel Leichty was arraigned Monday in Ottawa County Circuit Court. In exchange for his plea to the charge of larceny in a building, Ottawa County prosecutors will not charge Leichty as a habitual offender.
Leichty was remanded to jail pending his sentencing on Nov. 6.
Lots of tips helped police identify the suspect wanted in the theft of money from a tip jar at Electric Hero, 20 Washington Ave., according to the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety. The suspect entered the restaurant at about 4:30 p.m. July 23 and stole an undisclosed amount of money from the jar before fleeing on foot, according to Lt. Joe Boyle.
Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Lee Fisher said the tip jar contained between $35 and $40.
Leichty was identified with the help of surveillance videos and witnesses identifying him in a suspect lineup, Fisher said.
Officials had to transport Leichty to Grand Haven from the Muskegon County Jail. Leichty’s attorney, Michael Zitta, said his client was awaiting sentencing on a separate larceny charge in Muskegon County.
