Lakeshore Middle School 6th-graders show off Central American culture

Cook, a social studies and language arts teacher at the school, said students could research a Central American country and do a variety of projects that represent the culture or geography of that country. Many of the students made food, including a baked custard called flan, a drink called horchata and guacamole.
Jackie Sander, a sixth-grade teacher who attended the festival, paused to sample Skylar Slack’s guacamole. Slack said she started shopping for the dip’s ingredients at 6 p.m. and it took her until 10:30 that night to finish making it.
“I think it’s great,” Sander said. “All the classes are involved this year, so it’s quite a production.”
