Griffin Elementary School students walk to school for their health

Kathy Schwartz was one of numerous parents who walked with their children. As she walked with her two daughters, Schwartz said she thought the event was “great.”

“I wish more kids walked to school,” she said. “I always did when I was a kid. So many kids just get dropped off by their parents.”

Shortly before the students left, Griffin Principal Debra Mann said she was thankful that the morning’s intermittent rain had let up.

“We’re really excited about this walk today,” she said.

Walk to School Day was held to promote healthy activities, and has taken place earlier at other schools. This is the first time Griffin students have participated in it.

“Gas prices are going up, and more kids are going to walk to school, I think,” Mann said.

The school also has a Mileage Club, where students earn tokens for walking, and a party with healthy snacks will be held at the year for great behavior, Mann said.
