Jul 21, 2015 at 10:56 AM
Historical facts will be shared with the students, such as Central Park being the city’s first cemetery and the location of the mineral springs was originally where Fifth Third Bank now sits on Washington Avenue, and exploration of trains and bullet holes will be put into historical context.
Students will also gain insight into what it takes to run a city, as well as the support systems unique to the area, through participation in a mock City Council meeting and visiting the Grand Haven Water Filtration Plant. They will have presentations on Art Walk, boater safety, Recycle Grand Haven project and bicycle safety.
The students have been fundraising for the Fallen Heroes Monument in Central Park and will have the opportunity to learn more about the monument from members of the local American Legion post.
