Each student researched a Titanic survivor and wrote an autobiography of their assigned person. Among the questions students answered for each passenger were: where were they from, where did they board the ship, why were they on the ship, what economic class they were in, and how much they paid for their ticket.
The project included other school subject areas as well. The students spent art classes painting portraits of their characters. They used their math skills to calculate the length and width of the ship and determine a timeline for its voyage and sinking. They have collected photos of the ship and its passengers, and have built replicas of the Titanic and its furnishings.
On the evening of April 19, students dressed as their passengers — their families, staff members and friends — attended an elegant affair at the Wildwood Springs Clubhouse. Guests dressed in formal attire with foods and refreshments of the time. The room was decorated with memorabilia, photographs and furnishings of the period. This helped to recreate the stately atmosphere on the ship's upper-class decks.
Each child presented their autobiographies with true stories of those who survived the ship's sinking in April 1912.
