Grand Haven placed 774 and Spring Lake ranked 975.

“It's phenomenal,” Grand Haven High School Principal Tracy Wilson said. “Coming off a phenomenal weekend with Science Olympiad (the school placed third in the national tournament), this is just great. It feels really good for our kids, our staff and our community.”

The magazine ranked Grand Haven 26th in the state and Spring Lake 40th.

Spring Lake Superintendent Dennis Furton said Newsweek's announcement is a good way to end the school year.

Earlier this month, U.S. News & World Report ranked Spring Lake High School in the Top 2 percent in the nation and Grand Haven in the Top 5 percent. In national rankings, Spring Lake captured the 524th slot out of 22,000 schools and Grand Haven was 1,124th in the “America's Best High Schools” study. The magazine scored Spring Lake as the eighth best out of 826 Michigan high schools; Grand Haven ranked 26th.
