Getting to Know: Paul Aldridge

• Dec 3, 2016 at 11:00 AM

This is part of a regular feature, which will normally run on Saturdays, and will appear on the pages of the Grand Haven Tribune and online at grandhaventribune.com. We’ll sit down with a local personality and ask them several questions.

Name: Paul Aldridge.

What's your current job? National sales manager for Robertshaw Co. (appliance controls manufacturer).

Readers would be surprised to learn that: I've been on the school board for Spring Lake Public Schools for the past 10 years and have served as president the past four years.

If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who would you pick and why? My two grandfathers. They both passed away before I could meet them and I've heard a lot of family stories about both of them.

What's the coolest place you've ever visited? That's easy. My wife and I just returned from a two-week, three-city tour of Italy. It was fascinating and easily the coolest place I've ever been.

What are your hobbies? I spend quite a bit of time fishing — mostly for bass and pan fish. I also walk for exercise and enjoy biking.

What's your favorite restaurant? Clover Bar.

Favorite book? The "Prey" series by John Sandford.

What class was the most beneficial to you? Economics at Grand Valley State. The professor was able to really tie the concepts together and made sense out of them.

Have you ever met any celebrities? I met Bill Raftery, CBS basketball commentator; and Bill Steffen, TV weatherman.

What's your can't-live-without piece of technology? It has to be my smartphone.

What's your favorite app? The Weather Channel.

If you weren't in your current position, what would you like to do? A dream job would be baseball manager.

If you could travel back in time to any certain era or event, when/where would you pick, and why? 1984 World Series, golden age of the Detroit Tigers.

Who was the biggest influence on your life? My mother and father. They probably had an equal influence but in different ways.

What's your favorite movie or TV show? It was the “CSI” TV series. Since it ended, now it’s “NCIS.”

What's the best advice you've ever received? Go to work every day, be on time and hard work will pay off.

What do you love about West Michigan? I enjoy having all four seasons, although winters could be a little shorter. We have tremendous outdoor activities at our doorstep. I also like the people here.

Do you have any pets? No pets.

What's at the top of your bucket list? A river cruise, probably down the Mississippi River.

What's your pet peeve? Distracted drivers.
