The president of the city's Main Street Downtown Development Authority said this is part of the reason why the organization first organized the Wine About Winter event.

The authority is hosting its fourth annual Wine About Winter on Friday. It will take place in Grand Haven's Centertown and downtown districts.

“Winter can be kind of a depressing time, and this event gives people a chance to get out,” Kwekel said. “It’s a nice, local thing to do that can brighten such a gloomy time of year.”

Visitors will enjoy wine, artwork and what local businesses have to offer during the self-guided tours that start at 5 p.m. and end at 9. At the end of the night, artwork featured in the event will be judged by a panel of jurors.

Hop on the trolley to get a lift between Centertown and downtown by stopping at Lemon Creek Winery, 327 N. Beacon Blvd.; or at the Harbourfront Place parking lot, off Harbor Drive between Washington and Columbus avenues.

Wine About Winter is a unique event for Grand Haven because it has a local emphasis and doesn’t depend on tourists, Kwekel said.

The event showcases regional artists and businesses. A focal point is wine, which patrons can sample at 14 of the 27 participating businesses.

It’s free to attend, and tickets for wine may be purchased.
