The Tri-Cities Historical Museum's Akeley location, 200 Washington Ave., is hosting the Winterfest Photography and Poster Contest. A reception takes place there from 6:30-8 tonight to announce the contest winners.

“The photos and posters will be on display at Centennial Hall, which is (on the second floor),” said the museum's educational curator, Kevin Geary, who helped organize the contests and gallery. “The public is invited to view the photographs and the posters.”

The art event has a mix of youth and adult categories in each contest.

“Personally, I am impressed,” Geary said. “We do have judges from the area, and they seem to be impressed.”

Winterfest President Kevin Galbavi said it's important to have a variety of activities for the annual event, both indoors and outdoors.

"I think that you need to have a mix," he said. "We really strive for winter fun for everyone.”

Galbavi said checking out the contest entries in the museum is a good way to thaw out after spending time in the cold.

The poster contest is how Winterfest organizers find their promotional material for next season, Galbavi noted.
