If you've never gone to the Coopersville Outhouse 500, it's high time you see it. The outrageous outhouse race is the highlight, but there's so much more going on for about four hours, all in downtown Coopersville.

(1) Coopersville Outhouse 500 — Saturday in downtown Coopersville. A parade of outhouses on Main Street begins at 11 a.m., and then Thom Eno will play the national anthem on his musical saw prior to the races at about 11:20. Other events between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. include a 5K run, chili cookoff, euchre tournament, beach party, decorated toilet seat contest and auction, vintage snowmobile show, and polar plunge. For details, visit coopersville.com/events.htm.

(2) Poetry and Prose Readings — 7:30-9 p.m. Friday at the Tri-Cities Historical Museum, 200 Washington Ave., Grand Haven. This an "open mic" format, so you're invited to share your work or just listen to others. Light refreshments will be served. Admission is free, but the museum staff says donations to the museum will be appreciated.

(3) WGHN Home/Garden Business Expo — 3-7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Grand Haven Community Center, 421 Columbus Ave. The local radio station says 35 businesses will be on hand — such as home remodeling, home buying, financial and landscaping. Admission if free. The first 300 visitors starting at 11 a.m. Saturday will enjoy a free barbecue.

(4) Shop Till You Drop Indoor Yard Sale — 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Barber School, 102 W. Exchange St., Spring Lake. All proceeds to go to The People Center and The Noah Project.

(5) “Winners and Winds” — The West Michigan Concert Winds will perform at the Reeths-Puffer Rocket Centre, 1545 N. Roberts Road, Muskegon, at 4 p.m. Sunday. The concert features the winners of the student soloist scholarship competition. Tickets are $5 at the door for adults, and free for students age 18 and younger with ticketed adult.
