The 28th annual festival runs Tuesday through Sunday at various locations in the village.
New this year is a senior swing dance and a “chalk the walk” sidewalk decorating contest.
The fun kicks off Tuesday with Winsor McCay events at Spring Lake District Library, a dog walk at 6:30 p.m. at Central Park and a history walk at 7 p.m. at Village Hall.
Wednesday's lineup includes an all-day flea market at Harvest Bible Chapel and Family Fun Night with “chalk the walk,” inflatables, horseback rides, community picnic and ice cream social from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Mill Point Park.
Other highlights include a senior swing dance from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Holiday Inn and a barbecue wing cookoff from 5-8 p.m. at Mill Point Park.
The teenage band Academy Four will perform at this year's Wings on the Water event.
“These four young ladies play 13 instruments, write their own music and sing,” Heritage Festival President Rick Homan said. “They're all a product of Interlochen and they're very family-oriented.”
Friday's fun includes a pickleball tournament, car show and beer tent. Saturday's finale features a 5k run, pancake breakfast, Scottish highland games, beer tent and fireworks.
“The biggest thing is 100 percent of this is put on by volunteers that just want to see people smile,” Homan said. “And after all the bills are paid, all the money ends up going back into the community — 100 percent of it.”
