(1) First Friday Gallery Walk — 6-8 p.m. Friday at C2C Gallery, 104 Washington Ave. in downtown Grand Haven. The featured artist is photographer Johnny Quirin, whose exhibit focuses on the Imperial Valley in the Sonoran Desert of California. Michael Drost, a local musician who teaches jazz guitar at Grand Valley State University, will be performing on his guitar during the event. For details, visit c2cgallery.com.

(2) Coffee with the Birds — 10 a.m. Saturday at Hemlock Crossings, 8115 West Olive Road, West Olive. Spend the morning with a hot beverage, baked good and fellow birders to observe the feeders. Bring your favorite mug.

(3) Making Nature Calls — 2 p.m. Sunday, also at Hemlock Crossings' Nature Education Center. This is part of the Ottawa County Parks' Sunday Family Hour series. It's free. Registration is not required, but is appreciated. Call 616-786-4847.

(4) USS Silversides — It's open 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Winter admission is $5 for the museum and $10 for the combination ticket to see the submarine, museum and retired Coast Guard cutter McLane. At the museum, 1346 Bluff St. in Muskegon, is the USS Flier exhibit, featuring Grand Haven native Al Jacobson.

(5) Open Play Scrabble — 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Schuler Books & Music, 2660 28th St. SE, Grand Rapids. If you're into a little different and a little distance, the Scrabble Club meets in the community area at the rear of the store. All ages and skill levels are welcome.

You could also try out the Grand Haven Ski Bowl or some of the Grand Rapids-area hills for skiing, snowboarding or tubing. If you have cross-country ski gear, hit a new trail this weekend!
