W.O.W. begins 68th season Sunday

Contributed • Jul 21, 2015 at 2:41 PM

The programs run from 7:30-8:45 p.m. each Sunday through Aug. 24 at Waterfront Stadium, located at the west end of Washington Avenue in downtown Grand Haven.

Worship On the Waterfront continually strives to fulfill its mission of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ through song, shared testimony and the Word using Grand Haven's waterfront setting to reach out to the community and summer guests. While W.O.W. is a ministry of the First Reformed Church of Grand Haven, it is run by a team of 12 volunteers who are committed to providing 10 weeks of free Christian worship events that appeal to all ages and are supported by a generous community.

The headliners for this summer include: Matt Maher (June 22), who writes and performs music for today’s church; Josh Wilson (July 13), who has emotional songwriting and amazing musical skills; Shawn McDonald’s (July 27) music takes you on a spiritual journey; and Sidewalk Prophets (Aug. 3) bring fun and real life to their music. All of these performers are well-known in the Christian community and can be heard on local Christian radio stations.

W.O.W. also welcomes three newcomers this season: Newworldson (July 6) is a Canadian soul/gospel band, J.J. Heller (July 20) writes storytelling ballads about family and life situations, and The Vespers (Aug. 17) are an Americana/folk/roots band.

There are three crowd favorites back this season: Buddy Greene (June 29) will provide worship that is a little country/gospel and lots of fun; Chris Hansen with his Harkup Horns & Choir (Aug. 10) will provide a Sunday evening sing-a-long, and Peder Eide (Aug. 24) brings contagious and fun-filled worship.

Check out all of the artists at the event’s website, worshiponthewaterfront.org.

Beginning at 7 p.m., worship bands will lead in a time of singing prior to the start of W.O.W.

Come dressed for the weather, sit in the stands, or bring your own chair. A free-will offering will be taken.
