Top 5 things to do this weekend

(1) Coast Guard Festival Grand Parade — beginning at about noon Saturday. The dignitaries roll through beginning at 11:45 a.m., followed by arguably what is West Michigan’s best and biggest parade. The route that begins on Sheldon Road by the Church of the Dunes snakes through downtown and ends back at Lakeshore Middle School. You’ll know it’s over when you see the Scottville Clown Band. CLICK HERE for the city's policy on marking spots for the parade and fireworks show.

(2) Coast Guard Festival Fireworks Extravaganza— Saturday night after the Musical Fountain show, along the city’s waterfront. Hark Up performs at Waterfront Stadium ($20 admission) starting at 8 p.m.

(3) Entertainment tents — The local VFW and Eagles clubs will be rocking Friday and Saturday with live bands. The VFW, 20 N. First St., is open from 3 p.m. to midnight Friday, and from morning to midnight Saturday. The Eagles tent, 20 N. Second St., opens at 7 p.m. Friday and at 2 p.m. Saturday.

(4) National Memorial Service — 4 p.m. Friday at Escanaba Park. This moving tribute to Coast Guard personnel who died in the line of duty during the past year puts the focus on what the festival is really all about. Also, the Coast Guard Auxiliary Memorial Service is at Escanaba Park at 11 a.m. Friday.

(5) Worship on the Waterfront — 7:30-8:45 p.m. Sunday at Waterfront Stadium. Sidewalk Prophets lead the musical worship that will bring this year’s festival to a close. Admission is free; free-will offering will be taken.
