PORT SHELDON TWP. — A tip led police to a man believed responsible for a hit-and-run crash on Aug. 19 that caused injury to a motorcyclist.

The suspect, a 48-year-old West Olive man, turned himself in Tuesday with the help of a friend, said Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

The suspect was driving a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta and failed to yield in the Michigan turn from southbound to northbound U.S. 31 near Stanton Street in Port Sheldon Township at about 9:21 p.m. Friday. Police said he pulled the car in front of a motorcycle driven by Richard Medacco, 36, of Muskegon.

Medacco suffered leg and back injuries in the crash, police said.

The suspect admitted to drinking alcohol prior to the crash, Austin said.

A report will be turned over to the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office for possible charges.
