Firefighters prepare for Crusade for Toys

Becky Vargo • Nov 29, 2017 at 8:00 AM

Area firefighters will be out in force this weekend collecting donations for the annual Crusade for Toys.

The donations are turned over to the American Legion Post 28 Goodfellows, who work with The Salvation Army to help local families in need.

Volunteers are putting packages together this weekend for the 88 families selected by The Salvation Army. Donations collected this weekend will be stored to fill next year’s baskets.

Crusade for Toys collection boxes are located at the area fire departments, as well as at several business locations in the community.

The Goodfellows have been helping Tri-Cities-area children have a good Christmas for more than 70 years. Grand Haven firefighters joined the effort in 1959 and other fire departments have jumped in to help since that time.

Monetary donations may be sent directly to the American Legion, 900 Harbor Ave., Grand Haven, MI 49417. Note on checks that the donation is for Crusade for Toys.
