The fire started in the home’s garage, according to Lt. Casey Rosenberg of the Norton Shores Fire Department. When firefighters arrived shortly before 8 p.m., the flames had spread considerably.
“People were not home at the time of the fire,” Rosenberg said. “Passers-by called it in. We arrived and the garage was fully involved, and the fire had spread to the house. There’s a lot of smoke and water damage to the house, and the attached garage was a total loss.”
No one was home at the time of the fire, Rosenberg said. A family pet died in the flames.
The Fruitport Fire Department assisted on the call.
