HOLLAND TWP. — A 51-year-old Holland Township man is in custody and under investigation after he caused two separate crashes on Friday.

According to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, around 1:50 a.m. on Friday, the 51-year-old Holland Township man was driving a 2007 Nissan northbound on U.S. 31 at Lakewood Avenue. He was stopped in the center median of the roadway for a short time.

When he attempted to get back on the road and reenter traffic, he drove into the path of a 2002 Mercury Sable driven by 49-year-old Johnny Gaines from Holland Township. Gaines was not injured. He and the other driver were wearing seat belts at the time of their crash.

Two other cars crashed when the drivers tried to avoid the first crash. Those drivers only suffered minor injures and were treated at Holland Hospital.
