Wine about Winter returns Friday

• Jan 8, 2018 at 12:00 PM

For the ninth consecutive year, Grand Haven Main Street will celebrate winter with the its Wine About Winter walk-about.

This year’s event will take place Friday, Jan. 12, and focuses on wines from America’s West Coast — specifically varietals grown in the boundless wine regions of California, Oregon and Washington.

This unique occasion offers residents and visitors the opportunity to wander the heated downtown sidewalks and experience the warmth and vitality of Grand Haven’s Main Street district.

The festivities kick off at 5 p.m. with an opening Artists’ Awards Ceremony at the Tri-Cities Historical Museum, 200 Washington Ave. From there, visitors will have the opportunity to view works from some of the state’s best artists and shop, or ride the complimentary shuttle throughout the Main Street district, all while tasting wine and appetizers.

“Last pour” will be at 9 p.m.

Wine-tasting packages can be purchased in advance at Santo Stefano del Lago, 12 Washington Ave. This year’s admission package is $10 and includes a commemorative wine glass and two starter tickets. Additional tastings are $3 each.

For those unable to make an advanced purchase, admission tickets will be available that evening at select venues, including Santo Stefano and Harborwear, 210 Washington Ave.

Proceeds from this fundraising event are used for downtown beautification projects. Each year, Main Street strives to enhance the heart of the Grand Haven community through promotional events, physical improvements, and business recruitment and retention activities.

“These efforts are made so that visitors and residents alike can enjoy our historic downtown and help our West Michigan economy to thrive,” said Andy Cawthon, chairman of the Grand Haven Main Street promotions committee. “Events like Wine About Winter add to the vibrancy of Grand Haven Main Street and make it a year-round destination.”
