The Crusaders scored less than two minutes into the game on a Jackson Riegler 44-yard touchdown run and added a 10-yard Riley St. Amour run two minutes later to jump out to a 13-0 lead before the visiting Chippewas could even blink.
Muskegon Catholic Central would take that early momentum and cruise to a 42-6 win to clinch their fourth consecutive Lakes Eight Conference Championship since joining the league in 2014.
Riegler would add a 9-yard touchdown run as the first quarter expired to give the Crusaders a 20-0 lead.
In the second quarter, it was the Cameron Martinez show, as the shifty sophomore signal caller scored on runs of 60 and 50 yards to extend the Crusaders’ lead to 35-0. Dawson Fisher-Steigman would add a 7-yard touchdown run with 45 seconds left in the half to push the lead to 42-0 at the break and insure a running-clock scenario in the second half.
The Crusader defense would stand pat through the third quarter, but a 3-yard touchdown run by Manistee quarterback Trevor Johns would break up the shutout with 10:10 left in the game.
Martinez finished with 129 yards rushing and two scores on just six carries and added 65 yards passing, while Riegler added 59 yards and two scores on two carries and St. Amour added 54 yards on seven carries.
Ryder Smith led the Crusader receivers with two receptions for 54 yards.
On defense, Martinez, St. Amour and Isaias Reyes each recorded seven tackles to lead the way for a Crusader defense that only allowed 128 total yards on the day.
Muskegon Catholic Central (6-0) travels to Hesperia (0-7) next week, while Manistee (2-5) takes on Cadillac (1-6).
