Grand Valley State University head football coach Matt Mitchell announced the signing of 44 student-athletes to attend and play football for the Lakers in the fall of 2018.

"This is obviously a larger class in terms of numbers, but we were able to get a number of kids with a significant amount of Division I interest in the recruiting process," said head coach Matt Mitchell. "Our coaches did an outstanding job of recruiting to our positional needs and finding kids that want to be a part of Grand Valley State and our football program. We are always going to recruit the state of Michigan first, but Grand Valley State also draws the attention of kids in the surrounding states and we were able to sign 13 out of state kids and one from Canada," added Mitchell.

Inside the numbers:

• Grand Valley State's 2018 class consists of 44 total players from Michigan (30), Indiana (5), Ohio (4), Illinois (4) and Canada (1). The Lakers signed 23 defensive players, 20 offensive players and one kicker.

• If you were to divide the state of Michigan in half vertically, of the 30 Michigan signees 15 reside on the east side and 15 reside on the west side.
