City Manager Craig Bessinger said the City Council will discuss at its Monday night meeting (7 p.m. at Ferrysburg City Hall) if it wants to request proposals for the property at 17795 Dogwood Drive, west of Ferrysburg Community Church.
“Years back, Ferrysburg used to be part of Spring Lake Township,” Bessinger noted. “When they split off from Spring Lake Township, that was the land given to Ferrysburg. That was part of the city limits.”
In 2004, the city explored putting hiking trails through the property, but a state grant application was not successful, according to Bessinger.
“Since then, the city has done nothing with it,” he said of the wooded property.
A developer has not yet approached him about the property, Bessinger said, but “we did get an inquiry a couple weeks back from a developer who wanted to be included on the mailing list.”
Bessinger said the l-shaped parcel is buildable.
“It's the same kind of land that's in South Holiday Hills,” he explained. “It borders Dogwood Drive and Chief Street in South Holiday Hills, and also Lake Hills (Drive).”
Bessinger said the city does not have an appraisal for the property and any asking price would have to be determined by City Council, if it chooses to proceed with a potential sale.
“That will all be discussed Monday night,” he said.
