Last week, the City Council approved accepting payments by credit card. Currently, residents can only pay by cash or check.
“We have received calls from residents and others (asking for us to accept credit cards),” City Manager Craig Bessinger said. “We took it to City Council and they said, 'Go ahead and start taking them.'”
Residents will be able to pay their water, sewer and tax bills by credit card, according to Bessinger, and Realtors will be able to pay for record searches.
Any service fees associated with credit card usage will be charged back to the customer, according to Bessinger.
“People asked for this and we wanted to be user-friendly, so we'll start accepting credit cards,” Bessinger said. “The city clerk will start working on that.”
Bessinger said he expects the city will be set up to process credit card payments within the next 4-6 weeks.
