A body found in the Grand River in Georgetown Township on Nov. 17 has been identified as Deon Robert Hayes, 28, of Grand Rapids.

According to Capt. Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department, the body was identified based on tattoos and other identifying characteristics.

A forensic odontologist will confirm the identity once dental records are obtained from out of state.

Bennett said Hayes appeared to have died 1-2 weeks ago. The death has been ruled a drowning, and foul play does not appear to be a factor.
