FERRYSBURG — Ferrysburg City Council on Monday night honored Ottawa County Sheriff’s Deputy Corey Allard as Deputy of the Year.

Allard had served with the Spring Lake/Ferrysburg Police Department since 1999, and with the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office since 2014 when Spring Lake and Ferrysburg contracted with the county for police service. He still covers the Spring Lake and Ferrysburg communities.

In an emotional speech after County Commissioner Roger Bergman presented the award at Monday's Ferrysburg City Council meeting, Allard acknowledged his hometown roots.

“I work for a big couny, but Spring Lake/Ferrysburg is my home,” he said. “There's nowhere else I'd rather be. I'm truly honored to receive this.”

Allard served as a patrol officer and detective for the Spring Lake/Ferrysburg Police Department. He also worked as a field training officer, firearms instructor and taser instructor.

Sgt. Jason Kik of the Sheriff’s Office praised Allard's work.

“Since joining the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Allard has embraced our community policing model,” Kik said. “Deputy Allard has developed outstanding relationships within the community, especially with our schools and businesses.”
