Neighbors in the area were asked to stay inside their locked homes.
Norton Shores police were dispatched to the 200 block of Aue Road at 3:16 p.m. on a report of a stabbing. Officers located a female victim with a non-life-threatening chest wound.
The victim said that she exited the bathroom of her home to encounter a male in her kitchen. The suspect grabbed a knife from the counter and stabbed the woman. He then fled on foot.
The suspect was described as a man with a medium build, and wearing a mask, black zip-up hoodie and jeans.
Officers immediately set up a perimeter and used a K-9 officer to search the area. Ross Park Elementary School was placed on a lockdown with officers assisting parents at the scene and providing building security.
