Norton Shores officers responded at about 12:50 p.m. to assist Muskegon Heights police in the area of Sherman Boulevard and Getty Street on a vehicle reported to be fleeing from an accident.
The investigation revealed that the suspect vehicle, a 2005 Chevy Malibu, struck a red truck and white van that were stopped for a traffic light at Sherman and Getty, police said. The Malibu fled east on Sherman at a high rate of speed before rear-ending a 2010 Dodge Journey at the intersection of Sherman and Roberts Street.
Police said a Muskegon Heights officer witnessed the crash and immediately responded to provide aid.
The driver of the Journey, a 42-year-old Muskegon man, was transported to Hackley Hospital in stable condition.
The suspect was also transported to Hackley Hospital with minor injuries, and then lodged at the Muskegon County Jail. His name was not released pending possible charges of hit-and-run causing injury and driving on a suspended license.
The Norton Shores Police Department is investigating the incident. Michigan State Police, Muskegon Heights police, Muskegon police and Pro Med Ambulance assisted Norton Shores police and fire departments at the scene.
