HOLLAND TWP. — A West Olive man was injured after crashing his motorcycle into an SUV on 136th Avenue and Butternut Drive in Holland Township shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday.

Police said Marshal Hatley, 23, was driving his motorcycle north on Butternut Drive when an SUV pulled out in front of him from a Speedway gas station parking lot.

Sgt. Bob Ruster of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said Hatley suffered “serious, but non-life-threatening injuries,” including a head injury and possible broken bones. Hatley was in stable condition when he was taken to Holland Hospital by ambulance after the crash.

Hatley was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, Ruster said.

Ruster said the driver of the SUV, 59-year-old Bryan Peterson of Holland, was not injured in the crash. Peterson was cited for failure to yield the right of way.

Ruster noted that there seems to be a lot of crashes near the intersection of 136th Avenue and Butternut Drive due to heavy traffic in that area.

“Anytime you get heavy traffic there will be more chances for accidents,” he said.
