Killed in the 6:15 a.m. crash was Ronald White, 57, of Muskegon. He was the driver of the semi-truck and was employed by Verplank Trucking in Spring Lake.
Seriously injured in the crash was the driver of a 2011 Hyundai, Brian Smith, 53, of Newaygo. Smith is an employee of Mercy Health Partners in Muskegon.
An ambulance transported Smith to Hackley Hospital in Muskegon following the crash.
The Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the crash that occurred on Holton Road (M-120) north of Michillinda Road in Dalton Township.
The road was closed to traffic until 3 p.m. Monday.
Police on the scene said the semi hauling two big trailers of construction aggregate collided with the car. The semi tipped over and caught on fire.
Police have not released any details yet on how the crash occurred.
Verplank President Ron Matthews said that White was delivering a load to a road commission “up north.”
Matthews said that White had been employed by the trucking company for more than 15 years.
“We’re all pretty sad over here,” Matthews said. “We all loved him.”
