Police seek information on illegal dumping at Sluka Field

Police are looking for help identifying the owner and occupants of a Chevrolet Suburban who pulled into a parking area at Sluka Field and dumped a large quantity of construction debris into a dumpster on Memorial Day.

Sluka Field is located on the north side of Waverly Avenue, just east of Beechtree Street, on Grand Haven’s east side.

The dumpster had been rented by the Tri-Cities Kids League for the purpose of cleaning out their equipment shed.

“Tri-Cities Kids League is a non-profit volunteer organization which depends on donations, sponsorships and player fees to provide recreational baseball and softball opportunities to our kids,” the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety said in a press release. “Dumping trash in someone else's dumpster is irresponsible and illegal. In this case, TCKL has to pay to dispose of someone else's trash.”

The older-model, white Suburban was towing a steel frame and steel-mesh trailer, police said. In the photo provided by the public safety department, a female passenger can be seen drinking from a gallon of milk.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety at 842-3460 or Ottawa County Silent Observer at 877-887-4536, or submit a tip online at mosotips.com.
