Questions state lawmakers' ethics

• Nov 13, 2015 at 12:00 AM

To the Editor:

Michigan Legislature ranks second by having the highest-paid salaries in the nation and making over $75,000 yearly. At the same time, they are ranked last in laws on ethics, transparency laws and safeguards.

Michigan has the highest auto insurance rates in the country. Michigan is near the top in sales tax.

Now they just voted to make Michigan to have some of the highest gas taxes in the country, by raising them more than 7 cents a gallon.

The clincher is they quietly left the 6 percent sales tax on gas going to the general funds, not roads, and they may wonder why they have the lowest rating when it comes to ethics and transparency.

The final straw is a recent report in the paper stated: “Michigan, one of the most corrupt states,” and gave them a rating of “F.”

Change will come when more people start going to the polls than they have in the past.
