Fireworks narrators?

Laurel of Ferrysburg asked, “The Coast Guard Festival fireworks were incredible. Who were the narrators and what was the playlist?”

Answer:

The chairman of the festival’s Fireworks Extravaganza said that was not Morgan Freeman, although the voice we heard coming out of the Musical Fountain speakers sure sounded like the acclaimed actor.

“We hired an actor who has appeared on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' and other programs,” Roger Jonas said. “His voice was heard for two of the narrative segments.”

The female voice who did the welcoming message for the festival finale Saturday night was Rear Adm. June Ryan, commander of the U.S. Coast Guard’s Ninth District. The Ninth District, with headquarters in Cleveland, includes all of the Great Lakes including Lake Michigan. Jonas said he started the tradition about 10 years ago of having the Ninth District commander do the welcome message for the dignitaries attending the show and some other pertinent narrative preceding the fireworks.

The playlist for the fountain/fireworks soundtrack on Saturday night was as follows:

— The three fountain numbers were the "Star Spangled Banner" by Beyoncé, the “Five Service Medley” by the U.S. Coast Guard Band and “Critical Mass” by John Trammel.

— The body of the show featured “Lighthouse” by Nina Kraljic, “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” by Michele Creber, “Come Fly With Me” by Michael Buble, “You Gonna Fly” by Keith Urban, “One Call Away” by Charlie Puth, “Tritsch-Tratsch Polka” by the Vienna Opera Orchestra, “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten and “Can't Stop This Feeling” by Justin Timberlake.

“I recorded the public safety announcement at the very end for anyone who might have still been listening,” Jonas added.
