City Manager Pat McGinnis offers this clarification on the spot-marking rules for the Coast Guard Festival’s Grand Parade and fireworks show (so remember it for next year!):
“For purposes of our spot marking policy, individuals are permitted to claim a spot along the city right of way or river as long as they are consistently present up until the deadline (12:01 a.m. Friday morning). We consider an adjoining property owner ‘present’ when they mark their spot; they live or work at the property and are therefore ‘present’ for purposes of our policy.”
McGinnis said a check of the parade route on Friday evening and Saturday morning before the parade (Aug. 5-6) found many spots still open. He said people were still able to come downtown Saturday morning and find plenty of available spots with a great view of the parade.
