Kozak to discuss his book at LDL

• Oct 26, 2016 at 4:00 PM

John Kozak's book, “Through the Eyes of Rose: A Mother's Flight to Freedom in a Memory Mosaic,” is a true story written as a tribute to his mother, Rose.

The book details how at age 42, in October of 1949, she defied the Czechoslovakian Communists by fleeing into the Bohemian Forest with John and his sister.

Headed for the safety of West Germany, she was betrayed by a guide, hunted by tracking dogs, and nearly captured by a Soviet patrol before reaching safety.

Kozak brings his mother's story to the Loutit District Library on Thursday, Oct. 27, from 7-8:30 p.m. in the library's Program Room A. Books will be available for purchase and signing following the program.

Kozak earned his bachelor of arts degree from the Detroit Institute of Technology and taught at St. Catherine's Elementary School while working on his master's degree at the University of Detroit. Today he is president of J. Kozak Sales Inc., a manufacturer's representative agency in Grosse Pointe Farms.

Loutit District Library is located at 407 Columbus Ave. in Grand Haven.
