Rudy from Spring Lake asked, “How do we get streetlights repaired in Spring Lake township/village? There have been several lights out on Exchange Street for two years now. The locations are West Exchange near the boat ramp and several along Exchange Street behind and alongside Wesco. The area needs to be checked out.”

Answer:

Thanks to Rudy’s inquiry, those lights are getting checked out and lit again.

Roger Morgenstern, senior public information director for Consumers Energy, said a streetlight repair crew for the utility looked at some of them on Monday after I asked him about them. He said the crew fixed three lights on or near Exchange Street — two at a boat ramp and a third at a park.

“I don’t have the exact location, but it appears to be the same ones indicated by your reader,” Morgenstern said. “As for the lights behind and alongside the Wesco (gas station), those lights are not owned by Consumers Energy, so we are unable to repair them.”

Morgenstern said they are following up with Spring Lake Village Manager Christine Burns to determine the ownership of the lights in question, as they could be owned by private property owners or the village.

Burns, by the way, noted that the best (and quickest) way to get a streetlight repaired is to call Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050. You can also go to their website and report the outage. They will provide a work order number and an estimated repair date, Burns said.

Should the light be in the Grand Haven/Ferrysburg area, report the outage to the Board of Light & Power at 616-846-6250.
