Cruising for a cause

More than $250,000 has been raised for the Johnson Family Cancer Center in Muskegon in 12 years of Cars for Cancer events.

The amount raised during the 13th annual event over the Labor Day weekend has yet to be added to the total, noted Wayne Ferrier, a member of the Different Strokes Car Club, which hosts the event.

Ferrier said the Sunday evening cruise was their “biggest cruise yet” with 262 participating cars.

“I thought last year was big with 175 cars,” he said.

More than 700 classic vehicles also registered for Monday’s car show at Hackley at the Lakes on Harvey Street.

Ferrier said that was down from last year’s show of 900, but noted that the weather was better last year.

Danny Greer of Muskegon took Best of Show (people’s choice) with his 1932 Ford Pickup Truck.
