Greater Ottawa County United Way says $22,000 worth of school supplies and backpacks were collected during the fifth annual Stuff the Bus school supply drive.

The collection took place from July 24 through Aug. 7 at locations throughout Ottawa County.

During the month of August, 407 backpacks full of school supplies were distributed to local students at the Grand Haven and Holland Salvation Army locations.

More backpacks are available, so if you know of a student in grades K-12 in need of a backpack and school supplies, contact The Salvation Army in Holland at 616-392-4461 or in Grand Haven at 616-842-3380.

Stuff the Bus is a collaboration of Greater Ottawa County United Way, The Salvation Army and Grand Haven Area Public Schools. Two Men and a Truck supplies the collection boxes and helps drop off and pick up boxes during the drive.

Donations are still being accepted for Stuff the Bus. To contribute, text BUS to 30306.

To learn more, or to get involved, contact the United Way’s vice president of volunteer engagement, Shannon LaHaie, at 616-396-7811, ext. 206; or email slahaie@ottawaunitedway.org.
