St. Matthew's Hymn Festival to mark Reformation anniversary

SPRING LAKE TWP. — St. Matthew Lutheran Church will present a Hymn Festival next week in commemoration of the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther's posting his 95 Theses on the church door of the Castle Church in Wittenburg, Germany, on Oct. 31, 1517.

The Hymn Festival will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25. The theme of the service will be the Five Solas of the Reformation: Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone); Sola Christus (Christ Alone); Sola Gratia (Grace Alone); Sola Fide (Faith Alone); and Sola Gloria (Glory to God Alone). Commentary by Pastor Michael Goers, hymns and anthems by the congregation and the St. Matthew Choir under the direction of Bethany Goers will be sung. Organist and Parish Musician Joanne Jansen will be at the organ.

The community is cordially invited to join in this special occasion.
