Santa to visit Centertown

Santa Claus is coming to Centertown.

Children will be able to meet Santa at Just Goods Gifts and Café, 714 Columbus Ave., between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9. Twenty of the district’s businesses will also be offering activities such as decorating cookies and coloring, gifts, and discounts for the whole family during that time.

The event is a way to bring the community together and highlight the businesses in Centertown, said Barbara Lee Van Horssen, executive director of Extended Grace, which operates the Just Goods shop, a fair trade store.

Vintage Green Antiques owner Joyce Workman said she’s excited that Centertown’s business owners are coming together as a neighborhood to support the community they serve and live in. She plans to hand out oranges since the fruit used to be placed in Christmas stockings.

“It’s going to be a fun way for families to come down and hang out, and it’s not going to cost you an arm and a leg,” Workman said.

As Centertown businesses join together to support each other, Workman said that Saturday is also a way for families to see what’s available and have fun in a low-cost way.

Participating businesses are: Vintage Green Antiques, Nail Haven, The Salon of Grand Haven, JW’s Food & Spirits, Studio JSD, Righteous Cuisine, Washington Street Inn, Chocolates by Grimaldi, Bekins, The Bookman, Bella Mack, Sir Wellington’s Tea Co., Frame and Mat Shop, Rock ‘n’ Road, Overtime Sports, Lemon Creek Winery, Booked for the Season, Morning Star Café, and Rendezvous.
