The ultimate Christmas playlist to kindle the holiday spirit

Christmas is right around the corner, which means you’ve (hopefully) already got your decorations up, your tree littered with ornaments and your Christmas shopping completed.

If that’s the case, it’s time to kick back and enjoy the holidays with some timely tunes while geared up in your ugliest of sweaters and a cold glass of eggnog.

When it comes to musical preferences, I might have one of the more unique blends of genres that I shuffle through on a daily basis. From classic rock to hip hop to country to oldies, my ears hold no prejudice. This is pretty obvious when you look at my Christmas playlist.

I might not have been around for the glory days of Bing Crosby or Nat King Cole, but I appreciate their talents all the same. I also have some guilty pleasure ballads mixed in there that prove the holiday spirit holds no grudges over divas or boy bands.

Without further ado, here is my 2017 ultimate Christmas playlist.

The Appetizers

“White Christmas” by Bing Crosby

“Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow” by Dean Martin

“Baby, it’s cold outside” by Dean Martin

Whether you’re welcoming family into your own home or shaking off the cold from outside, these songs will help you settle in.

The Classics

“The Christmas Song” by Nat King Cole

“It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by Andy Williams

“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” by Frank Sinatra

You can’t have a Christmas playlist without including these staples of the season. Each one of these three has a full album worthy of its own playlist, but I picked one of my favorites from each.

Kids Classics

“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” by Burl Ives

“You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” by Thurl Ravenscroft

“Charlie Brown Christmas Dance” by The Vince Guaraldi Trio

Don’t forget about the kids; they need to celebrate the holidays, too. Here are a few classics that I’m sure most children would enjoy.

The Michael Bublé Hour

“Jingle Bells” by Michael Bublé

“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas” by Michael Bublé

“Holly Jolly Christmas” by Michael Bublé

Chances are, Michael Bublé will be having his own television special at some point this holiday season. If that’s the case, you can turn down the music and turn up the TV. If not, here’s a few favorites from his Christmas library.

Relaxation Station

“Winter Wonderland” by Kenny G

“Silent Night” by Kenny G

“The Little Drummer Boy” by Kenny G

At some point, you’re going to need to relax after all the gift giving, food and excitement. Who better to soothe you with some dulcet tones than Kenny G.

Electric Feel

“Christmas Eve/Sarajevo” by Trans-Siberian Orchestra

“Nutrocker” by Trans-Siberian Orchestra

“Wonderful Christmastime” by Paul McCartney

Hey, wake up! Here are some Christmas jams that will really get your blood pumping. If Grandpa and Grandma are still up, try and resist cranking the volume up to 11.

Present-Day Presents

“All I want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey

“Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays” by ‘N Sync

“Where are You Christmas” by Faith Hill

Mariah Carey might be the biggest diva walking the Earth, but she also has one of the biggest Christmas hits out there. I realize putting ‘N Sync on my playlist is a risky proposition, but I guarantee that song will be stuck in your head all day if you hear it once. Just don’t frost the tips of your hair after listening to it.

World-Wide Winterland

“Feliz Navidad” by Jose Feliciano

“Mele Kalikimaka” by Bing Crosby

“Little Saint Nick” by Beach Boys

Just because we get to enjoy a white Christmas doesn’t mean everyone else around the world does. Here are a few favorites for anyone with family out on the coasts or overseas.

Well, that’s a pretty good sample of what a Christmas celebration sounds like in my household. Feel free to make your own playlist on Spotify, Pandora, Soundcloud, etc. Consider this my Christmas present to you as you prepare to celebrate with friends and family.

Merry Christmas and Have a Happy New Year!
