Officials researching walking audit studies near 2 local schools

Alex Doty • Jul 21, 2015 at 10:56 AM

The city and the school district received a grant to study the neighborhoods near the two schools. A research team from Michigan State and Wayne State universities have spent time in Grand Haven to survey the routes, count traffic and identify threats to a safe walking and biking environment.

The researchers also surveyed students to discover why they do or do not walk or bike to school, and the team of students was used to identify areas of need during their walking audits near the schools.

“The MSU team will be going back to East Lansing and going through this stuff,” McGinnis said. “They’ll get that (data) together and issue a study report.”
