New downtown art gallery includes owner’s studio

Lydia Coutré • Jul 21, 2015 at 10:58 AM

The gallery offers a wide variety of original art from ceramics to scarves to jewelry to soaps. It represents 25 different artists — 75 percent of whom are from Michigan.

“They’re all people that I know and respect, so I can talk about how they make their work (and) who they are as people,” Johnson said.

The gallery will periodically host live performances by local musicians. Susan Picking will play this Friday night in the gallery, beginning at 7:30.

A third of the gallery is Johnson’s own ceramic studio, so visitors can see her at work. About 40 percent of the ceramics are her creations, she said.

“I know that a lot of times my work has to do with geometry,” Johnson said. “I know to has to be balanced. I think my work is probably a little bit more tidy — so that would probably lean toward being black and white, regimented.

C2C Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays, and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.
