Longtime Spring Lake Village president won’t seek fourth term

While Filber has ruled out running for president in the Sept. 13 election, he said he would consider becoming a write-in candidate for a council seat. Deadline for write-in candidates is 4 p.m. Sept. 2.

All candidates who filed prior to Tuesday’s deadline are running unopposed — councilman Jim MacLachlan is seeking a two-year term as Village president, councilman Steve Nauta is running for a second four-year council seat and recently appointed council member David Bennett is running for a four-year term.

No one registered for a vacant four-year term, according to Village Clerk/Treasurer Maribeth Lawrence. The seat is open due to MacLachlan running for village president.

Anyone interested in becoming a write-in candidate should call Lawrence at 842-1393.
