Asian carp invasion to be discussed July 13

Anonymous • Jul 21, 2015 at 10:59 AM

Invasive species have caused major changes in Great Lakes food webs. Bighead, silver, and grass carp have not yet established breeding populations in the Great Lakes, but many people fear serious damage to Great Lakes ecosystems and coastal communities if they do. This program will give an overview of these three invaders and the status of prevention efforts.

The presentation will be facilitated by Dr. Daniel O’Keefe of the Southwest MSU Extension and Michigan Sea Grant office. He works with coastal communities and businesses in southwest Michigan to apply science-based knowledge to address Great Lakes and southern Lake Michigan issues.
