Council approved the plan with a 4-1 vote. Councilman Dennis Scott voted against the grant application.

“I think what we have now is working great for the city,” Scott said of the current fleet maintenance situation.

According to Scott, there are two city mechanic employees, as well as a mechanic with Harbor Transit, and he didn’t see any advantage to the proposal for collaboration.

“I think the point of doing this is to see what the advantages might be,” Councilman Bob Monetza said. “I think that it is a legitimate question to ask.”

According to McGinnis, collaboration might range from sharing employees to looking at ways to save on fuel or tire purchases.
