Townships approve service collaborative agreements

Last week, Grand Haven City Council approved the agreements to seek a grant with the Michigan Municipal League that will allow for a $48,000 study for fleet maintenance collaboration and a $75,000 study for police/fire collaboration. The collaborative would be between Grand Haven, Ferrysburg, Spring Lake Village, and Grand Haven and Spring Lake townships. The fleet maintenance agreement will also include the Grand Haven and Spring Lake school districts, but neither school district will financially commit to the studies due to substantial federal cuts.

Grand Haven and Spring Lake townships approved both agreements on Monday.

The MML grant would cover half of each of the two studies, while the other half is to be covered by the five local communities or other funding sources. However, it is likely that MML will choose only one study for the grant.

The final two communities, Ferrysburg and Spring Lake Village, are expected to vote on the agreements on July 18. If they approve the agreements, Gaasch said she would submit the grant request the following day.
